samantha ridei went to bed i was thinking about you and how it felt when i finally found you it's like a movie playing in my head don't wanna look 'cause i know how it endsrising at the crack of dawn wasn't out of ordinary for her. what wasn't normal, however, was making herself look more approachable. normally, she'd shuffle out with a hat over her bed hair and keep her head down. but this morning was different. she pulled her wavy hair into a loose bun. even debated with putting a little make up on; her normal self won that battle. she slid on denim shorts that went to mid-thigh and pulled on a brown tank top. her collection of hair bracelets were piled onto her arms.
for some reason, she didn't feel like wearing boots. after all, her work was done so why not just go around barefoot? she had tough feet. she still wasn't showing even though she could swear that there was a small bump. it made her tremble. but she ignored it.
she'd get through this.
she grabbed a few apples from her boss' fridge. it was still kinda weird. living with her employer. now she knew how annie felt when sam all but shoved her into open arm's house. as she walked outside, feeling the warming sun on her tan face, she missed her ranch. the place that she had built and kept floating by herself. one pasture had been for the tame creatures while the other welcome the wild ones to have a place to be. she missed waking up in the morning and seeing deer or a wild stallion standing in the place that was always open for the spirited ones.
looking around, this place wasn't like her ranch. this was where tame horses were made. no wild horses came around, which was disappointing. she saw ace streching in the yearling pasture. when he caught sight of her and the apples, he trotted to the fence. she climbed it quickly and buried her face in the bay's neck. he was - of course - well groomed. sam took care of her horse while doing her work. he sometimes followed her around when she cleaned a stable. she wasn't sure if justin knew or not. she also wasn't sure if justin knew that she all but cuddled with his donkey in the moonlight when she couldn't sleep.
she also wasn't sure if he knew that she sorta dated a friend of his. jamie had been the one to point her justin's direction a year ago. sam had been furious with the army stables - as usual. she insisted that they use tame horses and jamie told her about his friend. she never made it around because of her broken ankle. then with the whole eowyn dying, leaving ace heartbroken and causing sam to go on a cross country trip.
she walked to one of the trees in the pasture. it wasn't very tall and simply gave the yearlings some shade. she gave ace his apple and smiled when the yearlings' ears pricked and made their ways to her. sam passed out slices and smiled when a steel gray yearling gave her cheek a sticky nuzzle. her laughter was like music, causing ace to prick his ears and bow his neck happily.
too long his mistress had been down. quiet and uneasy, sam had moved shamefully due to her pregnancy. but now, there was a subtle glow and she wasn't even into her second trimester yet! she tilted her head back against the tree and laughed when some yearlings decided to nudge at her, searching for more treats. she pushed them away and watched as ace bolted along the fenceline. the young ones chased after him, saving his mistress from sticky kisses.
picking the small flowers next to her, she wove, figuring she'd make a little tiara. maybe she could put it on a little filly. the mixed wildflowers were bright orange, blue, and white. her nimble fingers pulled them securely together to make a circle. she tried to picture a filly in it and knew that the little band wouldn't last long. surely it'd be eaten. so she put in on herself and allowed her two different colored eyes to follow the herd of horses that raced around the paddock.
the mid morning run caused the older horses to start in their own little runs. whinnies filled the air and sam covered her face when she glanced at the house. she hoped that justin was awake because surely he'd get a wake up call now.
notes; i kinda want sam to have a crush on your justin so yeah lol <3

Justin lay in bed silently, one arm behind him and supporting his head. He had been awake for hours - he was used to having to get up early to look after the horses.. but now Sam was here. To be honest, he hadn't even been thinking of hiring help, he could do everything himself.. a hard job, considering the amount of work the ranch took, but a job he could have done in his sleep. He had been running on auto-pilot all these years, just working the ranch and not thinking about anything else.. because, really, he couldn't fit anything else into his life.
And now, with someone else here to help.. he found that he had way too much time to think, to imagine.. to dream. His dreams were causing him trouble. Dreams of soft skin and different coloured eyes, dreams of golden brown hair waving in the sunlight. Dreams that left him, ultimately, hating himself. It wasn't right for an employer to have any sort of feelings toward an employee but perhaps a friendly thankfulness. Justin sighed, closing his pale green eyes and placing one hand on his broad chest.
He could hear Sam outside with the horses and a small smile crept onto his face as he heard Mud, the donkey, complaining about not getting enough attention. Mud had taken a great affection to Sam - something that had suprised Justin. The only affection Mud ever showed to strangers was to turn and face his rump to them. And at best, all Justin got was a grudging affection. So it was a pleasant surprise to know that the old donkey had taken Sam in so willingly.
With a groan and a sigh, Justin sat up, hands running through his bed hair. He slipped on a worn grey shirt, one of his favourites, and some trackpants and padded down the hall to the door. It didn't feel right, not helping to look after his own horses and ranch. He rubbed his eyes to try and get the sleep out of them before pouring himself a glass of orange juice. He thought for a moment and then pulled out another glass for Sam. Picking both glasses up off the kitchen bench, forgetting as usual to put the juice back in the fridge, he stepped lightly down the short wooden stairs and barefoot onto the dirt.
There she was, just milling about.. flowers in her hair. The sight made Justin smile - she was radiant in her pregnancy. He wondered briefly, if she had been the same without her baby. Had she been as lovely, as beautiful.. as mature? He decided it did not matter, she was the Sam he knew now. Justin cleared his throat, striding toward Sam and stopping behind her. "Morning" He said brightly, holding out her glass of orange juice cheerfully, his smile bright.
ooc; yay, love crushes!

samantha ridei went to bed i was thinking about you and how it felt when i finally found you it's like a movie playing in my head don't wanna look 'cause i know how it endsshe watched as ace pranced around. the little stampede slowed and the equines broke off. but they were still in a playful mood, sam guessed, because one would pull anothers mane and bounce away. she saw ace tug on a yearling's tail and laughed as ace was turned on by all the yearlings in the pasture.
she curled her legs closer to her and her eyes sparkled in amusement as the equines were engaged in another game. a tan hand rested in the grass and twirled it, absentmindingly, around her fingers, like she'd do with a horse mane. all her friends worked at the usa ranch; the day she worked at the ranch was the day that hell froze over. yes, she'd go visit her friends there but never would she align herself with it.
so now she would at seperation stud, where she worked with horses but not horses that had been taken off the range just to be marched off into wars with the natives. her eyes shifted to mud who complained. sam sent kisses his way but she wasn't sure if that would do it. later, she'd have to see if she could bring the donkey some sort of special treat. the long earred equine loved her simply because sam scratched him in that special spot that justin said he had. plus she constantly came out here just to be with mud and the others.
ace seemed to be handling the new home easily. he didn't get jealous when sam spent time with a different horse. unless ace didn't get a quick ride that day or extreme grooming. she tilted her head against the tree and smiled. her bay was silly.
and her boss... sam sighed almost wistfully. it was wrong to be so attractive. and it wasn't just his looks. she liked his friendly personality, his smile, his eyes. jesus, she liked it all. frowning, she picked blades of grass. and he watched her carefully because she was pregnant. sam nearly pouted. he didn't watch her because he was interested. he watched her because he was worried that she might hurt the baby or hurt herself.
it just wasn't fair.
she wanted to pound the ground but heard someone clear their throat. turning her head, she looked up into justin's face and smiled. morning she greeted and reached up to get the glass of orange juice that he had gotten for. it was sweet for him to think of her. and ridiculous of her to have her heart throb in her chest for a beat or two. did they wake you? she asked curiously, motioning towards the yearling herd and ace who were now grazing peacefully.
notes; haha x] i'm excited
