The Name: Arcane Fable
The Level:
Beginner to veteran, we cater for all and encourage growth of RPG skills and development of language and technique. We do have a 200 word post limit, but most RPers can produce more than that without blinking.
The Benifits:
An innovative stats system to eliminate the 'wonder' character, lots of canon characters for members to audition for and play, a deep, immersive storyline that will keep you hanging on the next post and an emphasis on storytelling and posting often and sensibly, rather that expecting unnessasarily long posts that convey little, are filled with literary fluffing and slow down the pace of character interaction.
The World:
A semi reasitic world inhabited by a master race of wild equines, who have split into four alignments. These four alignments practice and worship a different branch of elemental power and manipulation, called Arcana. One of water (Aquan), on of earth (Terran), one of Air (Aeran) and one of fire (Incendian)
The Tale:
The greatest love story n e v e r told...
"N-no... no Pachi, you can't mean that..." The sorrow is clear in his voice as he stammers, his amber eyes locked on the sight of his love retreating before him. Her visage, gorgeous in his loving gaze, is turned from him, as is her snow splashed caramel bodice, and her resentful but determined pace is taking her away. Wrenching his lover away from his protection and his adoration. His jaw agape slightly, disbelieving, he bounds after her, pulling up to her side only to meet the knashing of her sharp Incendian ivories, the unexpected attack stopping him in his tracks, leaving him to stand and watch her go, his gentle Aquan heart shattered into a billion tiny shards. His princess is leaving, and he can do nothing but look on, her mind made up and his fate in ruins. As tears press painfully behind his hollowing orbs, threatening to break loose, stopped only by his pride he cries out to her, the arrow of hatred suddenly piercing the remnants of his heart.
"I was wrong about you Parchia. I loved you, thought you different from your kin. I thought peace would come from our union, but you have proven my naive heart quite horribly wrong. You Incendians are all the same, set alight by the same vicious spark." He spits cruelly at her retreating form, she seems not to care, while one bitter tear looses itself and falls silently to the dusty ground. He has said something awful, something he did not mean at all, but he has been hurt to the very core and vengence seemed like the sweetest thing. Finally in slow moments she is gone, disappeared into the peachy sunrise mist that hangs in the air. The stallion screams into the firmament, devastation rampaging through him, his fores rising to slice at the Gods themselves.
"How could you do this to me!? I love you!" The call of her darling stallion, her dear Balorin, hits her ebony tipped harks like a blade to a leaf, and they fall as if dead to lay sadly upon her crest. From behind her stone hiding spot she watches as the faint form of the chestnut stag she had fallen for comes back to ground, his noble crown hanging dejectedly on his limp nape while he watches the place where she had disappeared from view. Finally though, as if the pain was all too great for even his vast heart he turns high upon his haunches, screaming to the heavens again, before he launches himself away at a reckless gallop, heading back toward his beautiful but lonely Kingdom. As if they had been held back for years, tears begin to roll down the colour splashed cheeks of the mare, crystalline droplets that course their dark trail down her delicate visage to fall off into the void. Still sobbing gently, she twists her tiara to her slightly swollen belly with her velveteen almost brushing her soft, furry coat, sullied with the ash and dirt of her homelands, and, in a seemingly odd gesture, she whispers to her bodice.
"If only he knew?" She nickers gently between interupting sobs, pulling her head back to it's correct height and position.
"If only you knew that I did this because I love you too..." She whispers out into the thick mist, her lyrics strong, determined, but tainted with the deepest note of pain. The mare had decided against telling the father of his growing bantle, knowing that the secret would escape him somehow, knowing that he would want to steal her away from her dominating mate, to take her and love her and their child no matter the risk. Though she would love nothing more, she knew too that if her mate Hexus, the Incendian Warlord, found that she carried the babe of the Aquan King, all their lives would be forfeit, no matter how long he had to hunt them down. They would not escape.
"I make this sacrifice of my love, so that our babe can live on..." She whispers bitterly into the fog, her only audience besides her growing foal, before about facing to tread on her way to the Incendian lands. To a bleak future of misery for herself, but one of life for the only evidence of their broken love.
While terrible threats in between t a k e hold...
It may surprise you that those of the fire and water clans used to co-exist with great civility. True that neither agreed with each others ways of life or choice of Arcana, but they let each other be for the most part - some even befriending eachother. But what will come to be known simply as The Affair is where the violent tear between the alignments began to course. Balorin, the Aquan King, became quite suddenly hostile to those of the flames, telling to his subjects true, though exaggerated, tales of their cruel ways, of their militant nature and their will to dominate the four elemental clans, even imposing hard laws that had any Incendian seen on Aquan territory to be killed or captured, and that forbade any Aquan from coming anywhere near an Incendian. Hexus, the Incendian leader, responded in kind, going so far as raiding herds of Aquans, taking slaves of the mares and fillys, and brutally executing the stallions and colts.
Ever torn on the Incendian sidelines, sick with herself for the mess she has caused, watches the small buckskin paint mare, Parchia, with her beautiful chestnut paint daughter, Ithyllin, always at her heels. Having told neither stag of the foals origin she managed to live to bring her into the world and raise her to be a healthy, strong young mare, and to her luck Hexus never questioned her unexpected colouration, only ever lording his two beautiful girls over the mateless and heirless Balorin. Not to Hexus's knowledge, the broken hearted Aquan King remains so for the continued love of his lost beloved Parchia, his heart still bleeding for her with every breath, no matter how many Incendians he sentances to death in revenge for her cruelty. One and a half years on, yes, the Aquan and Incendian hatred is firmly fixed and deeply ingrained, having started with the secret tale of heartbreak. So at present, the two alignments are at war, but the complication doesn't stop there, oh no.
As was said before, there exists four clans in this war split world. There is little to be said, though, of the Terrans and the Aerans, both rather new alignments of Arcana, and too concerened with their own whatnot to play any major part in the struggle.
Yet.
The Aerans reside in their snowy mountain home, lorded over by the Aeran King, a magnificent, regal and intelligent old gentleman by the name of Alastor. They go about their lives in a traditional way, training and educating themselves, finding ways to live better in their hazardous mountain territory. They are too concerned with their own dramatic lives to pay the Aquan Incendian war any real heed, thrown into expected turmoil with a dangerous resitance gathering to overthrow the throne, lead by a proud, hot headed and superior yearling stallion named Aspur. The reasons the Rebels have for trying to over throw their wise and strong King is known only to them, but whispers are that they are involved somehow with Hexus, the war and its outcome. More accurate whispers would reveal that Aspur has the lovely young Ithyllin locked in his desires. But Alastor will not have a bar of it, the old bay stallion knowing full well about the mounting resistance, and so he looks to the Aquan equines for assistance, politics coming into play as he offers his armies in assistance to the Aquans for assistance in return against these seditious Rebels. He does not see his Kingdom torn in two, half loyal to the Aquan cause, the rest the vast amount of Rebels on the side of the Incendians, foolishly basing their loyalty on the snake-tongued promises made by Hexus. Blinded by promises of mares, glory and land they do not realise that the Prince of Flames means to reward them with nothing but the gift of a quick, clean death.
That leaves the spiritual ways of the Terrans, holed up in their enchanted forests and groves, practising the art of Arcana under the gentle instruction of their clan leader, the sagely Druid Redargo, concering themselves with the movements of the celestial bodies and the will of the Spirits. Among them dwells all the knowledge of the universe, a library of sorts, a connection to the Spirits themselves, in a form unknown that rests, heavily gaurded, in the depths of the mysterious Terran forests. The Arcane Spirits, the Gods of Arcana, placed the Tome on the world for reasons unknown, in the dense forest for protection, the forests that attracted the Terrans who made their home around the enchanting emminence of the Arcana Tome. It is said to have existed since the very beginning of time, and as such it has faded into legend, and the generations of today are certain that it is mere allegory - a spiritual story, no more, no less.
Tell that to the Legion. The guard of four stallions, one Aquan, one Terran, one Aeran and one Incendian, created in the night from no dam and no sire, trained in combat and the arts of Arcana by the Spirits themselves and given to the task of guarding this tome of knowledge and power. This is the Arcana Legion, Gods on earth, through them flows the very essence of the four elements, their bodies the vessels of the Arcane Spirits of each alignment; should they choose to come to earth. As such they are named for four for the Spirits, the leaders of their respective Pantheons, Sorano of the Water, Ballr of the Earth, Harak of the Air, and Tyon of the Flames. They are all as old as time, immortal, death only coming to them from a breach of their duty. They live only to answer to their ethereal masters, and to give their endless lives in service to them.
What ever would happen to this fragile world if the warring leaders should find out about this great Tome? Or even something as trivial as Hexus discovering the true origins of his dear beatiful daughter? Will the Guard fail in their duty? Will you have any part in the legend? What will the world come to? Well, you can decide...
Choose your path, seal your f a t e.
